Heather tells her story at the 6th Annual Afternoon Tea while Board Chair Karmen Masson looks on.

On June 5, 2013, Heather's life changed after a fight with her husband. She was told to leave the home that she shared with her husband and children, and that her husband wanted a divorce. The mother of two boys started on her journey with limited resources for her and her children. Once the shock of her situation became reality, she started on her pathway and has only looked back to see how far she has come.

Heather visited many social programs that assisted her with job readiness training, and resume preparation, she also visited Suit Yourself to assist her with gaining her confidence and self esteem through a new wardrobe.

“At first I was nervous, and worried. I wasn’t sure if they would have my size, or anything that I would like to wear. I was so worried that my children weren’t going to be welcomed at the appointment, but I had no babysitter. When I got to the appointment, the volunteers welcomed my children and me. They created a pleasant, comfortable environment for us. I walked out of my appointment an hour and a half later with a large assortment of clothes that I felt good in. I remember walking into Bredin the next day feeling confident and excited that I had new outfits to wear. I had my job interview the following day, and I got the job. I am still working, and am proud to say that I can be who I want to be and look good being me!"

In recognition of her ongoing efforts and achievements, a donation of $100 was made in Heather’s name and she was inducted into Suit Yourself’s Golden Hangers Club at the 6th Annual Afternoon Tea.
